In the Yumbe region of northwestern Uganda, surrounded by malnutrition, thirst, and deprivation, the destiny of a single village has changed—with your support. Thanks to Çare Association’s “Life to a Village” project, worship, education, and clean water are no longer distant dreams for the villagers but a part of their everyday reality. From the mosque to the water pipeline, every detail of this completed complex has brought comfort, security, and educational opportunities to the daily lives of the people.
A water infrastructure reaching from a 110-meter-deep borehole to three separate storage tanks has merged with a newly built mosque and a Qur’an memorization school (Hifz madrasah) in the heart of the village, forming a small yet meaningful complex. A 36-bed dormitory, a 50-person dining hall, and spacious bathroom and wash areas have greatly improved the village’s hygiene standards. Two ablution fountains (şadırvan)—one in the courtyard and one in the outer garden—serve hundreds of people daily for ablution and personal hygiene. Residents of neighboring villages no longer need to walk miles; they now draw water from this facility near their homes. The complex, surrounded by a secure wall, also includes four toilet units and two guest rooms for visitors from outside. Thus, a safe and multifunctional space has emerged for both worship and social activities.
Everything began with a small step. Access to water became easier. Children’s voices echoed in the madrasah. People gathered in the mosque. Day by day, not only needs but also hopes began to grow. Days once marked by thirst and hardship have now been replaced by hope, unity, and new beginnings. This project has not only fulfilled vital needs but has become a turning point that transformed life in the village: •The search for water, which used to begin at sunrise, now takes just minutes—saving especially women and children from hours of walking. •The mosque has become a social hub: weddings, condolences, and weekly gatherings are held here.
•Children attending the madrasah now learn not only Qur’an memorization but also reading, writing, basic math, and local subjects. •A proper space has been established for communal iftar meals and feasts, strengthening social solidarity.
“In short, this project didn’t just build structures—it established a new way of life.”
